Since 1992, Central Carolina Health Network (CCHN) has provided comprehensive care services for HIV infected and affected individuals and families throughout the Piedmont-Triad area.  CCHN serves persons living with HIV in the seven-county area of Alamance, Caswell, Guilford, Montgomery, Randolph, Rockingham, and Stanly.  CCHN’s mission is twofold:

1. To expand access to quality care for persons living with HIV
2. To reduce the spread of HIV through education and prevention

RYAN WHITE PROGRAM

The Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program provides a comprehensive system of care that includes primary medical care and essential support services for people living with HIV who are uninsured or underinsured. The Program works with cities, states, and local community-based organizations to provide HIV care and treatment services to more than half a million people each year. The Program reaches approximately 52% of all people diagnosed with HIV in the United States. The state of North Carolina is divided into ten regions for the Program, each administered by a local entity. CCHN is the local administrator for Region 4 (Alamance, Caswell, Guilford, Montgomery, Randolph, Rockingham, and Stanly counties).

CCHN administers Ryan White Program Parts B and D for Region 4 of the state. Part B is funded through the state of North Carolina, and Part D is funded directly from the Federal Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA). Part B funding is used to improve the quality, availability, and organization of health care and support services for individuals and families affected by HIV and AIDS.  Part D’s purpose is to serve women, youth, adolescents and families infected with and affected by HIV through coordination of family-centered, community-based comprehensive systems of care.

CCHN partners with a variety of community organizations in order to provide services delivered through the Ryan White Program, including primary and specialty medical care, dental care, case management, individual and group mental health counseling, outpatient alcohol/substance abuse treatment, transportation, emergency financial assistance, outreach and testing services, and health insurance premium and co-pay assistance.  Ryan White funds can also be used for respite care, child care, durable medical equipment, hospice care, registered dietitian services, support services, emergency relief, and legal assistance.

HOUSING OPPORTUNITIES FOR PERSONS LIVING WITH AIDS

In addition to receiving Ryan White Part B funds, CCHN also receives funds through the Housing and Urban Development’s Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) program.  The HOPWA program provides resources to meet the housing needs of persons living with HIV and AIDS and emphasizes the creation and perpetuation of a broad continuum of housing options. CCHN partners with local housing authorities to provide permanent housing supports for clients in need.
